Mitainedor is a top-down, pixel-art, action-adventure RPG infused with French-Canadian & Abenaki culture, and psychological horror. The player braves through an unexpected hunting season, unraveling multiple stories of human relationships, sacrifice, vulnerability, courage, and care. 


Through the eerie landscapes and haunting fauna, the player interact with the Mitainedor, a retro gaming console woven into the game's very fabric, holding answers that have an effect on the world that surrounds them. However, this is no ordinary game console : it is also a portal to the past. This hidden power will only reveal itself as the game progresses, through 12 minigames, where he can gather essential resources (such as maple water) and uncover lost knowledge that will aid in both the games and the real world. What starts as a simple survival mechanic soon becomes a bridge between timelines, entwining history into the heart of the adventure.

 

In Mitainedor, horror is not just about what lurks in the dark : it’s about the scars left behind. The main characters are confronted with deeply unsettling experiences: abandonment, being lost at sea, genocide, exile, betrayal, hunger, widowhood, and the presence of pure evil. These psychological horrors shape their journey, forcing them to navigate a world where fear is both external and internal.


But horror does not fade, it lingers, passed down from generation to generation. Mitainedor explores the weight of generational trauma, interlacing it into both the main story and the 12 minigames played on the in-game retro console. Each game-within-the-game reflects echoes of past suffering, revealing how fear and pain ripple through time, trapping those who inherit them.


Fear is the great barrier to emancipation. It binds the character to their past, preventing them from moving forward. To break free, they must confront their trauma, acknowledge the horrors that shaped them, and face the terrifying truth : only by accepting the past can they reclaim their future. Redemption comes at a cost, and in Mitainedor, the price is fear itself.
